Is Chronic Pain In The Upper Thigh Due To Sciatica?

Hi, I have started with left upper thigh near groin pain off and on, radiates often to left hip and down leg. When the radiation occurs, it is a moderate burning pain in the thigh area. more so in the knee and down to foot. Feels like sciatica, however took a Medrol dose pack ( prescribed by my provider last year for arthritis on hand),Sx s started 2 weeks ago. I have started a work out regimen and pain is worse on treadmill , more so at a gradual incline as well as just performing daily activities I work in healthcare and have been stretching 3 times daily with the appropriate hip, hamstring, and lower back. Treating with Aleve twice daily and Flexeril at night. My concern is the pain starts more towards upper left thigh and groin. Even though I believe it is sciatica, I do have a thought that it may be my left ovary. Right was removed after hysterectomy due to large dermoid in 2011. Have not seen GYN as of yet.. No abdominal bloating, I know better not to Google , but due high deductible I am trying to self treat with stretching exercises and rest. I am relatively active and my weight is 175 and 5 6 . Any further advice than what I am already doing?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain in the upper thigh due to sciatica. Well the symptoms is most often the result of a gradual, aging-related wear and tear called disk degeneration. Twisting and turning while lifting is also one of the major reason for this problem . Apply warm compresses from lower back to entire leg. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan ,MRI , myelogram , nerve conduction test along with physical examination . Doctor may prescribe percocet , gabapentin , muscle relaxant along with cortisone injection . Doctor may also recommend physical therapy and surgery in some severe cases.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
