Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Brown Urethral Discharge A Side Effect Of A Laparoscopic Appendix Surgery?
I had my ruptured appendix laproscopically removed about 6 weeks ago. I’m 60. Today I’ve been discharging a brownish bile substance from my urinary tract, and it burns. Several days before this started happening, my lower stomach was aching after eating food and my lower back would ache. I was feeling as if I had to use the restroom often and felt gaseous. Since this discharge started, those symptoms have been absent today. Should I be concerned with this discharge, or is this just another side effect from the surgery?
Brown urethral discharge may be due to hyperbilirubinemia or post-cathetor removal pain or it may be hematuria from upper kidney or prostatitis or prostatic trauma, etc.
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please get ultrasound abdomen, urine microscopy, culture, biochemistry, liver function tests. Drink plenty of water, avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks. Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
