Is Biopsy Recommended To Treat A Small Pancreatic Cyst?

Hello,I m a 71 year old male in relatively good health. I had and MRI conducted on my abdomen in May which revealed and 8mm pancreatic IPMN cyst. I had a repeat MRI done in September and there was no change in the size of the cyst. I have and appointment with a specialist on 1/30/17 a Dr. Jonathan Bucaglia who is located in E. Setauket L.I., NY. I m very concerned that things aren t moving along, but my regular Gastroenterologist seems to think that the cyst may be too small to biopsy at this time. Are my concerns warranted? Thanks so much,Ted Nielsen

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
A small cyst in head of pancreas that has not increased in size on followup MRI need not be disturbed as simple cyst does not need any treatment unless it is causing any symptoms and signs.
Your Gastroenterologist is absolutely correct.
Carry on your appointment with the specialist and discuss the issue in details so that you are not left with even s single doubt.
Have normal diet and an active life.
Stop worrying about such a small cyst if there is no problem and I am sure the MRI must have been done something else which you must not have any finding and the pancreatic cyst must have been an incidental finding.
