Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Any Treatment Needed When There Is Normal Bowel Movement Twice A Day After Getting Treated For Perforated Bowel And Diverticulitis Three Years Ago?
I am 79 I had a perforated bowel and diverticulitis about 3 years ago After antibiotic the perforation in my bowel healed with little scar tissue and the diverticulum healed. My surgeon has said that my lower bowel has narrowed and I now have a motion - fairly normal twice a day - occasional three. No signs of any blood fresh or dry and I occasionally have some release of faeces when urinating - and do not have any problem urinating.
It sounds like you are experiencing some changes in bowel function following your surgery for perforated bowel and diverticulitis. The narrowing of the lower bowel may be a result of scar tissue formation or other changes that occurred during the healing process. The fact that you have a regular bowel movement pattern and no signs of blood is generally a good sign.
However, the occasional release of feces when urinating is something that you should discuss with your doctor to rule out any underlying issues such as fecal incontinence. Additionally, if you are experiencing any discomfort or pain during bowel movements, or if your bowel movements become less frequent or irregular, you should discuss this with your doctor as well. They may recommend further testing or treatment options to help manage your symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
