Is Anxiety The Withdrawal Symptom Of Contraceptive Pills?
Hi there, I had a query regarding the contraceptive pill. I have not taken it for about two months now (not because I wanted to stop taking it but I just did not have time to see a GP) and for approximately the last 4/ 5 weeks I have felt really anxious and down in myself. I have never experienced these types of symptoms and so I was wondering if it is a side effect of coming off the pill? Thank you!

Is Anxiety The Withdrawal Symptom Of Contraceptive Pills?
Hello, Anxiety and mood swings are generally side effects while using the oral contraceptive pills and not a recognized withdrawal symptom. Also, oral contraception does not cause withdrawal symptoms of any kind. So, very likely the anxiety you are experiencing is not directly related to coming off the oral contraception. Maybe it is related to fear of becoming pregnant due to not using contraception or other situations that may be causing pressure on you. I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed. Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
