Is Air Travel Safe While Suffering From Meniere’s Disease And Empty Sella Syndrome?
I have recently been diagnosed with empty sella syndrome and planning a trip on an airplane from Maine to Arizona in a few days. I also have Menieres Disease and had sudden deafness in one ear and have some tinnitus in the other ear. I am wondering if I should expect any problems with my head on my travels. I am a 54 year old woman. I am 5 7 and weigh 174 lbs. do you have any answers for me?
Since you are a known case of Meniere's disease and also have sudden deafness in one ear and tinnitus in another you should abstain from any travel unless advised by your ENT Surgeon after proper clinical evaluation, examination, endoscopy and investigations to know the cause and get an appropriate management. Air travel increases and reduces air pressure during ascent and descent to enhance the problems as you have.
I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
