Is Abnormal Blood Work For Inflammation A Concern?

my son is in the army and his bloodwork came back abnormal for inflammation and they wanted to do a deeper, more in depth blood test, and they called him 5 times while he was at work today and said to contact their office immediately...what should i be worried about? i m scared to death

It is understandable to be concerned but it may not mean that he has a significant problem.

The inflammatory markers most commonly used are ESR and c reactive protein.

These can go up with any source of inflammation- any infection even the cold, allergies, skin irritation.
They can go up with more serious sources of inflammation as well- autoimmune disease (lupus, Rheumatoid), cancer etc

Further testing would determine the exact source.
