Is Ablation Advisable When Suffering From Atrial Fibrillation?

Hi have had 3 episodes of Afib in last 8 months all cardioverted. Last one 3 weeks ago now on Rhymol 325mg twice daily. 57 year old male with controlled hypertension and normal echo. As ive been told afib begets afib. Should I stop postponing the inevitable and place some hope in an ablation? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, recurrent atrial fibrillation is related to conduction defects at Sino atrial node most likely.

* When the patient is on regular anti arrhythmic medication and needs on and off cardioversion, ablation of ectopic foci is most successful intervention performed by interventional cardiologist.

* The ectopic foci is usually located near the ostia of the pulmonary veins and the same has to be located before the procedure on table.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
