Is A Ribbon Shaped Stool A Cause Of Concern?

Hi,have passed long ribbon-like stools twice now as within a month but majority of the times that I passed stools, they looked normal. However, when i did passed ribbon stools, i clearly remember that there was no difficulty at all,in fact, it felt pretty easy to pass those type of stools. I make sure i always drink a lot of water. Perhaps this fact helped eased the situation? I ve gone through colonoscopy two years ago due to an abdominal discomfort and the result was negative, but the examination was only half-way through my colon. Would you think I would need to have another one?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Ribbon shaped stools can be indicative of some kind of obstruction in anal canal or rectum which is causing the stools to be ribbon shaped. I suggest you to consult your gastroenterologist for clinical assessment of rectum and anal canal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
