Is A Low Sodium Diet Advisable Post A Pituitary Tumor Surgery?

Question about pituitary tumor surgery - brother just had surgery to remove tumor and of course is fatigued - had operation 8 days ago - he is touch with his surgeon regularly. He did mention he has to watch NA levels - monitor liquid and not eat too much fruit (liquid content) does this mean NA too low? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The Pituitary is a too small gland and is produced by so many hormones.

One of which is ADH (Antidiuretic hormone), produced from posterior pituitary and act on collecting duct in kidney, which function is to re-absorb water from the duct and make urine concentrated.

So, it may derange and sodium may loss in to urine which leads to hyponatremia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
