Is Zofran Effective In The Treatment Of Diarrhea?

Is Zofran used to control diarrhea? I had my ovaries removed last week. The codine pain pills caused diarrhea that has lasted several days. I stopped taking the pills after two days, but the diarrhea has continued for five days even with Pepto Bismol. I have colitis which is a contributing factor. My doctor tells me to maintain a bland diet with Cream of Wheat, soft boiled eggs, etc.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Zofran is a medication mainly used for nausea and vomiting. It won't actually help your diarrhea. I don't think the Codeine may be the reason for your diarrhea. A major side effect of Codeine is constipation. Diarrhea is usually seen as a withdrawal symptom. I think colitis is responsible for your diarrhea. Continue to follow your doctors orders. If the symptoms persist, you should probably get a new set of labs done. I hope I was able to answer your questions. Please let me know if you have any further concerns.
