Is Varicella Test Advisable To Diagnose Chicken Pox?

Hi. I am 33yr old male, have low grade fever 99-100 deg F since 3 days, today I could see 5-6 boils on whole body, visited GP they said it s Chicken pox and has started anti viral medicine 5 tablets a day. I have also got a varicella IGg and IgM test, reports expected by tomorrow, is this test a confirmatory test for chicken pox ? Complete blood count is all normal, Urine routine is clear too.

Hello,

Please note that varicella IgM will be indicative of recent or present infection.

Anyway, usually chickenpox is diagnosed on the basis of characteristic rash and fever.

Continue antiviral. For fever tale paracetamol. For rash Cetrizine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Varinder Joshi , General & Family Physician
