Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am just starting valsartan for high blood pressure, 160 mg once a day. I m a 76 yr old white male who just had knee replacement 12/7/16 and very active up until than. what must I watch out for as far as side effects? YYYY@YYYY
I understand your concern and would explain that this drug is usually well tolerated at your age.
Anyway, I would recommend checking potassium plasma levels and kidney function tests every 3 months, while taking this drug, because it can increase potassium levels and is not well tolerated in chronic kidney disease.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
