Is Triamcinolone Advisable For Small Lumps On The Breast?

I have several small bumps resembling bites on my right breast. They appeared after taking a antibiotic for a cold. The doctor prescribed a Triamcinollne .1% which appears go be drying it up somewhat. The doctor prescribed it without physically looking at it. Could this be something else? Thanks, Mona

I had seen your medical complaints and understood your concerns. You had small lumps on right breast which could occur due to many causes. The most common causes are infection, trauma, fibroadenoma, cyst, fat necrosis etc.

Coming to your presentation, you got small lumps which numerous and painless and sudden in origin. The lumps of this type of origin are generally harmless (non cancerous or benign). So no need to worry but you have to confirm the diagnosis by the following investigations:
1. complete blood picture
2. breast mammography
3. check for fever or any allergic substance

Triamcinolone is a topical steroid which is used to treat the inflammation caused by allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis. It is a good choice for lumps on breast.

By seeing all the aspects the most probably cause of your condition might be allergic substance (antiallergic drug used for cold) or infection. This has to be confirmed by physical examination and investigations.

Coming to treatment part,
1. in case of infection (fever) a good antibiotic has to be started
2. Triamcinolone can becontinued
3. in some cases drainage might be required

Hope you could understand all the aspects and act accordingly. There is no need of worry, but it is always advised to go for investigations as soon as possible to avoid further complications. If any abnormality is found in your investigations you can contact us at any time.
