General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for your question.

I'm glad to help with your concerns.

Triamcinolone is a steroid which acts by suppressing the immune system, hence effective in treating pain and other symptoms which result from exaggerated immune response, and shingles is not one of those. In fact, supressing the immune system may worsen shingles.

Hence, triamcinolone is not appropriate for shongles. I wouls suggest other topical analgesics such as capsaicin patch which is the analgesic of choice in the treatment of shingles. Drugs like pregabalin also help to relieve the pain.

I hope I have answered your question,.

Please don't hesitate to get back to me if you have more questions.

Best wishes.
