Is Thyronorm A Correct Medicine For Hypothyroidism?

Hi, My husband is of 25yrs age and he just his blood test results which showed high cholesterol and mild under active thyroid.. Our doctor prescribed him Thyronorm 25mcg and Rosuvas F 20 for 3months.. Is is a correct medication?? and Do both medicines have any side effects??

Hello. Yes, both the medications prescribed to your husband are correct. Let me explain how. Thyronorm contains levothyroxine - the hormone which is not produced in sufficient quantities by the lesser active thyroid. So we supplement it from outside - through tablets. These have to be taken on an empty stomach in the morning. Your doctor has started him on a lower dosage which is OK too. For higher cholesterol he has started him on a statin - rosuvastatin which is a lipid lowering drug. In 3 months we should be able to see how these drugs have affected his blood parameters and then we can take a decision to decrease, increase or stop them completely. Hope this helps.
