Is Syphilis Contagious Through Consumption Of Contaminated Food Or Water?
I have a brother that has syphillis and I did not find out until I spent the day with him trying to do something for my mother. I did have a headache so when we got back to my mother s house, he lives there, he gave me a disposable cup of water and a tylenol. I don t know who may have drunk out of the cup if someone did. Can I get the disease that way?

Syphilis is a bacterial infection. Syphilis is transmitted by:
1. unprotected sexual intercourse with infected person
2. infected mother to fetus/baby
3. through blood transfusion
4. needle sharing – this is very rare
Syphilis is not transmitted by daily activities or sharing eating utensils or clothing. This is because the bacteria die quickly outside human body. Also complete cure of syphilis is totally possible. So there is no need to worry. Ask your brother to contact a doctor.
