hi.sir my name is mehul patel and my mom is suffering to the cough problem and when she visited hospital then doctors advice to take rotahaler but i am carrying about my mother and i think that it is not a good medicine to takle this problem. so, i am bit confusion about rotahaler though it is a good ya bad?
The rotahaler is used for persons with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is a disease that occurs in persons with a history of smoking for a long time. This disease occurs as a result of damage to the lungs that can occur due to the chemicals in the cigarettes.
If your mother has a history of smoking, then this would be the reason that this inhaler was given. If she does not have a history of smoking then you may want to take her to be checked out again so that another cause can be found. The most common cause of chronic (persistent) cough is post nasal drip of mucus to the back of the throat.
Some persons are not aware of the drip itself and only present with the cough. Treatment of post nasal drip would be an antihistamine/decongestant combination. It can take 1 to 2 weeks for an effect.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
