Is Olanzapine Safe For The Treatment Of Anxiety In A Teenager?
My 16 year old grandson has been prescribed olanzapine. He tells us he suffers from anxiety and sometimes hears voices. I am terrified for him to take this medication as it seems overkill for a 16 year old who might do better with counseling only for a while. He has seen a counselor for 2 sessions before she prescribed this medication

If only anxiety, then no need for Olanzapine. It may be prescribed because of hearing of a voice and it may lead to anxiety. It is a good drug, but it may have some side effects like weight gain, increase in sleep and metabolic dysfunction after a longer period of use. Counselling may not help in hearing of voices.
