Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Mobic Safe To Be Taken Long After A Heart Attack?
My wife went to our primary physician yesterday about what she thought was sciatica. Our doctor took drays and determined that she has arthritis at the end of her spine. He prescribed a steroid and he prescribed Mobic. I am concerned about her taking Mobic. She had a sudden death event 4 years ago, was obviously revived and has 2 cardiac stints in the left descending artery. Miraculously she has no heart damage. She takes carvedilol morning and evening. A statin drug and thyroid pill daily. She also ties a 81mg coated aspirin. We made a call to her cardiologist today but have not heard back. She has not taken any Mobic yet.
Your concern is very right. In a patient who is on treatment for heart disease, we do not recommend the use of meloxicam (Mobic) for long times. It may increase the risk of stomach ulcer, may increase the heart problem, and may damage the kidney. So yes it may be used for a few days if needed but better to avoid it and not to use for a long time.
For the pain, she may use paracetamol, with heat pads, if that doesn't work she may be prescribed weak opioids for arthritis, but better to avoid Mobic and other NSAIDs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
