Is Miconazole Effective In Treatment Of Balanitis?

Attn : dr Mohammad hanif Hi Doctor , around 4 months back when I woke up I saw some flakiness on the penis and a white ring which was waited to be rubbed so the flakiness could come out (basically with the flakiness I mean is like when you use a eraser on a paper , that kind of substance thing) , I couldn t do anything abt it since I was away traveling and I had been applying candid cream which have me temporary relief and then when I got back I visited a dermotologist # 1 , he saw it and said it was psoriasis and then immdtly said no it s not that and it s something like that etc etc and wrote me some medication and a steroid cream , which I did not take because I wanted to make sure and went for a second opinion , dermotologist # 2 - have me some anti fungal tabs for 5 days along with ketoconazole lotion and I applied that for 20 days and then after 2 days again had the same problem which means that medication did not work , then again I went to another dermotologist # 3 and he said its irritant balanitis and gave me a cream called elidel and asked me to apply it for one month , the same day i decided to meet a pedriatic doctor because had read an article very clearly explaining skin problems related to penis and he has give me this ointment called miconazole and has asked me to apply it continuously Atleast for 6 weeks and see as edge sees it fungal infection / kind of balanitis , I have started this ointment from today and going to use it for 6 weeks and see and hope it gets cured because I am very worried and stressed abt this , when I rub mildly and remove the flakiness I am little relieved but obviously it comes back and the glan is pinkish mild redness , mild itching on foreskin and sometimes little dark red patches and sometimes nothing and the foreskin is also quite pinkish / redness - this is the current problem I have , I have tested for everything and it s al negative , all mentioned above is exactly what has happened and what I have , After reading your replies to others I think you can guide me telling me what this exactly is and if it s serious? Isn t curable ? Will it get cured with this ointment I have started now? I have always been very higenic in that area since years and also protective while intercourse. I am 34 yrs old , all above mentioned in the exact history abt what has been going on , pls help me with my questions if it will get cured with this ointment and it s nothing serious? Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Miconazole ointment will serve healing to some extent in many of the instances. If the cause of balanitis is secondary to phimosis, circumcision may be a need of time if the diagnosis is confirmed by consultant surgeon. Apart from infection control, safe sex practice matters a lot for the same.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
