Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Metoprolol-Succinate A Good Alternative Of Atenolol?
I can not, at this time, renew my subscription for Atenolol which I have taken for 20 years. My Dr has switched me to Metoprolol-succinate which is time released. Will I have problems or is there a better medication more like Atenolol? Thanks, Mary Kaye Tuttle
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Atenolol and metoprolol, both are cardio selective beta blocker (acts only on heart). Metoprolol is newer molecule. It is more effective, efficient and having fewer side effects. So metoprolol is better than Atenolol and hence no need to worry in starting metoprolol. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
