Is Magnesium Chloride Advisable For Reducing The LDL Level?
I have high cholesterol. I do not want to take a statin. I d rather use diet, exercise, and vitamins to lower it. I have been successful in the past at lowering my numbers this way. I would like to try taking Magnesium to lower my LDL. I read that one doctor recommended taking a prescription form, Magnesium Chloride Solution 100 mg/cc. I am wondering if this is still available only by prescription or available over the counter? She also recommended 1000 mg of chelated magnesium; should I try that first?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
The decision of not taking medicine depends on levels of different cholesterol levels. If marginal increase is there then they can be controlled with diet and regular exercise.
Now use magnesium chloride for higher cholesterol levels is limited upto experimental level mostly in animals. So I personally won't advice it.
One thing to be kept in mind that hypercholesterol itself is less hazardous than associated with diabetes and high blood pressure.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
