Is Losartan The Right Medicine To Reduce High Blood Pressure?
I have just went through a divorce and my blood pressure has spiked to 170-190/118 for a week and I'mon losartan but I cannot get it to go down and I'm pretty sure I may need to be worried. Can I take a second pill later in same day to help or what can I do
** Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern
1. Losartan belongs to group of drugs called Angiotensin II receptor antagonist which helps prevent blood vessels from narrowing and improves blood flow and reduces blood pressure.
2. As there is emotional cause associated with high blood pressure thus tranquilisation of mind is also important as such also ask for a mild tranquilizer [like alprax 0.25 mg] along with antihypertensive drug.
PS. As this medicine is frequently associated with dehydration and electrolyte imbalance thus do not take further dose without first contacting your attending Physician
3. Since there is a wide range of anti hypertensive drugs available today thus the choice will depend upon:
- The tolerance of the patient to the drug i.e. how the drugs responds, and the side effects - the individual choice of the Doctor - the cost of the therapy
