Is Letrozole The Right Medication For Breast Cancer?

Yes, is Letrozole considered to be chemotherapy after breast cancer surgery? Have already had radiation treatments and oncologist said no chemotherapy is indicated but calls Letrozole a five-year pill for prevention. My e-mail is YYYY@YYYY . thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Letrozole is an oral non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor medication.
It works by reducing the total amount of estrogen produced primarily in the body. It causes cancer cells to starve by depriving them of estrogen.
It is used for primarily treating certain kinds of breast cancer (hormonally-responsive) in women during the post menopausal period.
Hence, it is the right medication prescribed for your condition by your doctor.
Kindly take the medication as prescribed and do the necessary follow-up as advised.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
