hi, I have a mother in law who is taking klonipin, She says they prescribed it for her siatic nerve. but she mentions that they are going to increase it due to her not being able to sleep. Is this true and what she should be using it for ? I feel as though there should be a drug for the sleep and they should keep looking at whats causeing her nerve to act up of cause pain?
Klonopin is a tranquilizer of benzodiazepine class group of drugs. It is used mainly for prevention and treatment of seizures, panic disorders and movement disorders such as akathisia. It is anticonvulsant and antiepileptic, calm the brain, and nerves. It is not meant for specific treatment of sciatic nerve.
Yes it can support to some extent by calming the brain and panic associated with the same. It is true that they must get evaluated for the sciatic nerve etiology and definite management rather than empirically increasing the dose of sleeping pill.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
