Is Hydroxyurea The Right Medicne For Myelodysplastic Syndrome?

I have MSD, (mylodisplastic syndrome) and my doctor prescribed hydroxyurea, 500 mg. 1 daily. I am also taking atenolol, atvorstatin, gapepetin. 81 mg aspirin and many B vitamins, plus 75 mg of plavix. I have congestive heart failure, neuropathy, and in Feb. I had a heart attack and a stent was put in the 75% blocked artery. I am concerned about the hydroxyurea as it says on the paper from the pharmacy , used for sickle cell anemia. I also have ulcerative colitis and am taking metamucil capsules which provides bulk. and I get an infusion of Entivyo every 8 weeks for the colitis.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The hydroxyurea has 2 modes of action including that on red blood cell as well as neutrophil reduction comprising a low immune response to certain ailments.

* So your information regarding pharmacy paper is ok, but it is not the sole use of the drug.

* Continue rest of the medications as per your regular schedule.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
