Is Gabapentin Effective In The Treatment Of Sciatic Pain?

Hi , thanks for your ansering my question , is Gabapentin useful for sciatic pain ? and if it is,does it have side effects? i am 66 years old and female and itake 160 mg valsartan for my high blood pressure once a day and 10 mg propranolol twice a day. i use 300 mg Gabapentin capsul orally if i have sever sciatic pain. again , thank you very much for your attention and your help.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Gabapentin reduce the nerve pain but the underlying cause of nerve pain is matter of concern. Gabapentin can definitely be used in sciatica but it may not cure the disease. If this is the sciatica related pain, then you have to get the surgery done to relieve the compression.
