Is Azithromycin Intake Safe For The Treatment Of COPD?

I have copd and have had it for 5 years I do not have a fever but just started coughing with thick mucous ,I called my doctor and he prescribed azithromycin,which I have never taken .I am on my third day and am feeling better(i think)..I do breathing treatments each morning and have an emergency inhaler..I guss my question is this the drug of choice for these symptons? I read the side effects and start worrying..I know I can call him but I just want you opinon. I can hear wheezing when I breathe..

yes,this is safe and this is prescribed for you to avoid secondary infections,which may occur because in COPD patients there are chances of developing secondary infections
