Sir my daughter is suffering from Typhoid diagnosed yesterday with S.Typhi O 1:320 And S.Typhi H 1:160 Doctor has given Azithromycin 250 for 3 days before diagnosis and asked to continue with it for 6 days total. Is Azithromycin effective in treating typhoid? Or should i shift to Cefixime 200mg. And if yes for how many days.???
Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by salmonella typhi. It is very resistant kind of fever. Chances of bacterial resistant are very high. Event after treatment, patient might become carrier. So, total clearance of bacteria is needed. Advice 1. Complete bed rest 2. Ceftriaxone 500 mg twice daily intramuscularly for 14 days 3. Paracetamol 500 mg if fever occurs 4. Cold water sponging if fever is more than 100 degree Farenheight 5. Drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated Thanks
