Is Augmentin Or Levofloxacin Better For Sinus Infection?

I was given amoxicillin for swollen sinuses, however it did not work for the two week period I was on it. I went to the doctor and he told me he was going to prescribe me Augmentin however when he called it into the pharmacy I go to, he told them Levofloxacin for the sinus problem I still have. What is the difference between Augmentin and Levofloxacin and if I take the Levofloxacin would it still work as the Augmentin would? kim

hi.
thanks for posting query at HCM.

amoxicillin and augmentin constituents are slightly different. Augemtin also contains "clavulanate", in addition to amoxicillin. Augmentin is a good option to treat sinusitis/pharyngitis or upper respiratory tract infection in a patient who is young, middle aged and otherwise normal

Levofloxacin is usually preserved for patients with underlying chronic disease ( high BP/ diabetes/ or previous (any) antibiotic use in last three months ).

you may take levofloxacin . its a broadspectrum antibiotic with good outcome for treating various diseases including sinusitis.

wish you good health
