Is Amiodarone 200mg Intake Safe For A Patient, Occasionally Suffering From AFib?

My doctor just prescribed amiodarone 200 mg because i go in and out of Afib occasionly. I am concerned because he prescribed me Flecanide and after 4 days I was admitted to the hospital with acute CHF and Bradycardia. My pulse was down as low as 38. I did not have any breathing problems before taking the Flecanide. How safe is amiodarone?

Hi,

Your concern is right. These medicine can have side effects which sometimes are serious. However, sometimes their benefits are much more than it's potential side effects so we use it with caution. Amiodarone can have few serious side effects like lung or thyroid liver problem. However, these are quite uncommon and we can (and do) regularly monitor patients for such effects and stop the drug of any os there. But If you have rhythm problem, then it's benefits may be much more then it side effects.
