Increased BP After Taking Arava, Have Ventricular Ectopic Heartbeats, Chest Pain. Should I Worry ?

I take Methotrexate 15 mg once a week, and Arava 20mg once a day ,since being on the Arava my blood pressure
seem to have increased, usually around 150 to 160 over 85 to 90. I also have ventricular ectopic heartbeats, that
have been checked out, and they say they are benign, and nothing to worry about, I also get sore in my chest muscles
and chest pain, which I think is my heart ,but that has been checked.I have been told that it could be due to my muscles
in my chest wall. My pulse also beats a bit faster than normal around 80 to 84 resting . Should I be worried my blood pressure.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Generally, Arava (Leflunamide) is well tolerated and does not cause serious side effects. But it has been known to cause an increase in blood pressure over prolonged use.

As you already have some cardiac problems, its always better to consult your treating physician and discuss the issues.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
