How To Withdraw From Valacyclovir HCL?

I have been taking Valacyclovir HCL 500mg, one time a day, for 2 yrs because I had herpes. I am having severe respiratory problems and stop breathing at night. Should I try to get off the Valacyclovir HCL and if I do should I do it slowly or all at once ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Do a clinical examination by your family Doctor and do CBC with differential, Spirometry and Peak flow] to diagnose your exact cause.

2)You can stop [valacyclovir]and it has no role to play for long times.

3)Discuss with your doctor about [Combination inhalers like fluticasone-salmeterol], oral [montelukast] and [Omalizumab].

Do follow few lifestyle modifications like this-

1)Get vaccinated for influenza and pneumonia.

2)Try to identify and avoid triggers. A number of outdoor allergens and irritants ranging from pollen and mold to cold air and air pollution can be trigger points.

3)Try to monitor your breathing. You may learn to recognize warning signs of an impending attack, such as slight coughing, wheezing or shortness of breath. But because your lung function may decrease before you notice any signs or symptoms, regularly measure and record your peak airflow with a home peak flow meter.

Hope that helps
