How To Withdraw From Gabapentin?

I would like to reduce taking gapapentin. Now take 200mg morning ...noon ...evening 400mg. I was going to reduce 100 in the evening and 100 in morning and at noon. I can t see my dr until 2 weeks...having anxiety attacks...cold and hot flashes ...which I ve never had before. I m taking this for a burning pain in my chest ...I don t bekieve it is helping me. I actually have more back pain and gas since statrting this stuff ..so I m coming off. My dr will understand when I see her .. Do you medically think by reducing from 800mg. Tom500mg for 3 days and then reduce again by 300 will be ok. I ve been on this for about 1 1/2 months

Hello,

Tapering off Gabapentin will include gradually taking lower doses, often over a period of weeks. Tapering is the process of slowly decreasing doses of the drug on a clear timeline, so the body does not need the presence of the medication to feel normal.

When you no longer need Gabapentin, or you want to switch to a different medication, your doctor should work with you to safely taper off this drug. The timing will depend on how long you took the drug, how large the dose was, and physiological factors like age, gender, and body weight.

General tapering recommendations suggest that a dose reduction of 25% at weekly intervals, along with patient monitoring. Supplementing magnesium is necessary during the tapering timeline as it will ease in coping with withdrawal symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
