How To Treat Swelling And Clear Drainage From Elbow Caused Due To An Injury?

Tuesday I dislocated my elbow in a fall with a superficial wound, puncture. Elbow back in place by emergency room. Wound is in 5 the day of healing. Serous drainage was clear, and now amber in color. Still clear, but seems to be increasing in volume. About a drop comes every minute. . Elbow is warm and swollen, but wound is not inflamed at all. Should I keep bandaged or let air get to the wound.? Keeping elbow stabilized with sling. Thanks for advice

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

I advice you to
1.take oral antibiotics for a course of 5-7days.
2. If not, have a topical antibiotic ointment application.
3. Wash the wound properly before ointment application.
4.Gauze dressing should be done & changed daily
5. Also, check for any pus discharge. If so such abscess should be drained immediately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
