How To Treat Soreness And Burning Sensation In Tongue?

For five weeks I have had little sores on my tongue accompanied with burning. An urgent care Dr. gave me a steroid shot..no change. My family doctor gave me antibiotics...no change. I am now on Prednisone...so far no change. I use Magic Swizzle from my dentist which treats the pain temporarily. No one can tell me exactly what I have. One suggested Shingles; but she is not sure. The burning on my tongue is constant. I hope you have some idea what I should do next. Thank you for your time. Email - YYYY@YYYY

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME in which there is burning sensation inside mouth and it can occur due to a number of conditions like Dry Mouth, Nutritional Deficiency like low levels of iron and Vitamin B, Oral infections like thrush, certain medications like that are used to reduce blood pressure, hormonal imbalances like in Diabetes and thyroid problem, allergic reaction to dental materials etc, while at times it can occur without any underlying cause..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated so that he can take a complete medical history and do a clinical examination along with any necessary investigations if needed to rule out the exact cause of the burning mouth..
The treatment of the underlying cause will help in reducing the discomfort..
As of now you can suck on ice pops and drink plenty of cold water for getting relief..
Avoid hot and spicy food..
Avoid excess tea, coffee and areated drinks..
Take a soft bland diet..
Gargling with a numbing mouth wash will relieve..
For pain you can take an anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..

Hope this information helps..
