How To Treat Sore Toes That Ooze Brownish Red Liquid After Getting Crushed, Potentially Frozen During Snowboarding?
Hey there, recently I went snowboarding and my two big toes had gotten crushed and potentially frozen they were not frost bitten though. Now a week later my toes had been sore to the touch and I recently decided to clip my nails after clipping the one a brownish red liquid had squirted out from underneath and now my toe is no longer sore to the touch. I tried to get the liquid out of the other as I assumed it was having the same issue and there was no such luck. Wondering what this is an how to deal with it?
From the given description, there is a possibility of infection beneath the nail fold, which might have resulted in outpouring of brownish red liquid (sero sanguinous discharge) while clipping your nails.
A preliminary xray of the involved toes is needed to exclude any bony injury/infection in the phalanges.
A course of an appropriate antibiotic along with an antiinflammatory drug for a period of 5-7 days may be good enough to control the underlying infection. However, a detailed clinical examination is needed to establish a correct diagnosis.
I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation and management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
