How To Treat Sharp Pain In Left Side Of Chest And Elevated Heart Rate?

I am a 36 year old female and in general good health. About a week ago, I felt sharp pain on the left side of my chest, and when I took a breath it seemed to have just disappeared before reaching my lungs. My heart rate elevated (I could feel it) and within a few minutes it was gone, except some slight discomfort. A few days later I felt a pressure in the middle of my chest that radiated all the up to my jaw and lower teeth, when the pressure dicipated, it was followed by numbness and tingling in the left chest area. I do smoke and have for over 10 years and have also had a Vitamin D defeciency in the past as well. The onset of chest pain occurs without activity but sometimes worsens with it. I have made an appointment with my doctor for next week, but I am not sure if this is soon enough.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would suggest you visit a cardiologist and do all the examinations, including a heart stress test, and probably an angio CT of your coronary vessels.

I recommend to take a rest until the doctors visit and the use of aspirin 100mg once a day, Atorvastatin 20 mg once a day in the evening, bisoprolol 2.5 mg, once a day depending on your heart rate if you do not have any containdications. These are until you see the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Anila Skenderi, General & Family Physician
