How To Treat Pancreatitis?

I have had a slight dull pain in my right rib cage area for a few months. Doctor did x rays and blood tests and said i have pancreatitis. He has put me on on Salpraz and Alphamox. If my pancreas is inflammed why do i need to take antibiotics? My doctor seems to prescribe antibiotics regularly. Alex

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I can understand your concern.
I would like to know if you consume alcohol, if yes then how frequently. I would suggest to avoid alcohol completely for few days.
The main treatment for pancreatitis is supportive . it includes giving rest to bowels, iv fluids and antibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs. So, continue the medication as advised by the doctor. That should be sufficient and it would subside the inflammation in a weeks time. Hope you are satisfied with the response. Thanks for choosing HCM
