How To Treat Numbness In Tongue Post Lymph Node Removal From Neck For Mouth Cancer?
Last year i had a mouth operation for mouth cancer and then i took my lymph nodes out of one side of my neck now this is caused my tongue on one side to be numbwhich i expected. But in the last 2 days its feel bruised underneath now could this be from brushing my teeth and i can t really feel or is it because there was a spot on the scar of my neck which hasent healed properly yet underneath as this is still quite numb, i m a bit worried
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain numbing of tongue after oral surgery to remove cancerous lesion and lymph nodes seems to be most probably due to traumatic injury to the lingual nerve that supplies the tongue leading to numbness.. In case if the trauma in mild then the sensation will recover in some time.. But if the nerve is completely damaged then there can be irreversible loss of sensation or numbness.. Consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated in this regard and an MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.. As far as a numb scar spot is concerned and it is appearing to be unhealed, you need immediate medical examination to check for any recurring malignancy so that it can be treated before it spreads..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
