How To Treat Nausea And Vomiting With Sinus Problems?

Hello. I have had some sinus problems in the past few weeks, and this morning i woke up with bad nausea and have been vomiting ever since. Not much comes up, some liquid only because i havent eaten in 20 hours. I have green mucus when i blow my nose and my nose is not too clogged. ears have been tender and i am a little light headed. Could you please tell me how to get better. is it sinus drainage into my stomach? if so, why do i keep vomiting and feeling really nauseated? How can i make it stop?

Hi,

Noted your history of green nasal discharge, nausea, vomiting, not eater for 20 hours, headache, ear pains.
All your history is suggestive of a condition called as Rhino-sinusitis with secondary effects.
The green nasal discharge if indicative of nasal infection, probably coming out of sinuses.
This goes down to stomach and can cause intestinal infection, gastritis hence nausea and vomiting.
Blockage of openings of sinuses leads to heaviness of head or even headache.
Transmission to ears through Eustachian tubes can cause ear problems.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult an ENT Surgeon for ENT Endoscopy.
CT scan of sinuses.
Tests of blood.
Get started on appropriate antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and decongestant medicines.
Symptomatic and supportive therapy in the form of a PPI like Omeprazole, Domperidone for nausea and whichever medicines your Doctors would suggest.
Take bed rest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General and ENT Surgeon
