How To Treat Itchy Cheeks Along With Yellow Liquid Discharge While Smoking Marijuana?

Hello Dr s.I have had red scaly cheeks since mid February. They off and on oozed out a clear/yellow liquid, in the first two months my cheeks were itchy, scaly, red, bit of burning, oozing. Now, I do smoke Marijuana, that being said Im a frequent smoker however I do not smoke anything else, and I rarely drink. Im also not allergic to anything.I was prescribed Doxycycline to treat whatever was on my cheeks, I was on Doxy from Feb-May. The pills helped very much on stopping the oozing and shrinking the affected area. However I still have this on my face and its starting to ooze again as of June.March I started to take notice that nothing except for Marijuana smoke made my face react. When I smoke my face becomes somewhat inflamed and itchy, since Im not on Doxycycline anymore my face oozes. So my question is am I allergic to Marijuana with these symptoms ? And if so, How did I become allergic and only allergic to Marijuana. Also, how can I effectively treat my cheeks?

Hi,

You seem to be having an allergy to marijuana however I would advice you to get other conditions ruled out like contact dermatitis. The allergy can be reduced with the help of oral antihistamines like pheniramine maleate, Cetirizine and also by using local steroid containing ointments like Betnovate.

Please note that the steroid ointment would cause the skin to turn scaly after sometime. Also, cetirizine or Pheniramine maleate causes sedation and if taken with marijuana may cause an increased effect of marijuana. My advise to you is to quit smoking marijuana and seek help from the agencies in order to get rid of the habit.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
