How To Treat Irregular Bowel Movement?

I have had irregular bowel movements since I was a child. I have 17 years old and have not passed a bowel in about five days. My stomach has swollen quite a bit and I am feeling full 24/7. I took a laxative about ten hours ago and I still do not have the urge to go.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

* Usually chronic constipation is functional at the age of 17, but still there is a definite need of colonoscopy to evaluate the remote possibility of intestine stricture from various causes.
* As the laxative has not worked for 10 hours, you require immediate attention at ER for soap water or proctoclysis enema relieving the motion at earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
