How To Treat Hantavirus Infection?

I think my husband may have contracted the hantavirus, we live in Arkansas. Where can we find a hospital that knows how to treat this. We have been to his family doctor, Baptist Hospital in Little Rock and Arkansas Heart Hospital and they all have said they did not know how to even check for it much less treatment.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The hanta virus is a grave infection with exposure to rodent urine or droppings. The clinical manifestations are severe and some common ones are

- high grade fever

- muscle and bodyache
- diarrhea in some cases
- lethargy
- respiratory congestion, rapid breathlessness, respiratory failure via ARDS
- others

* There is no specific treatment or vaccine for Hanta virus and supportive care is only therapy as

- hospital admission
- supportive intravenous fluids
- electrolyte abnormality correction
-oxygen or endotracheal intubation in selected cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
