Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
I think your mother will be better off with surgery as in her age plaster treatment will not be able to unite bone, and it will be difficult to keep that plaster for three to four months with continuous movement, she will feel pain and discomfort. So with surgery she can be treated easily and faster. She will be fine with in one month.
If you want further advise then please share her x rays with me. I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
