How To Treat External Itchiness On Both Ribs?

Hi, I m 47, female, white, and for several months now I have been experiencing an external itchiness at the base of both sides of my ribs and around towards my back. I have no trigger that seems to bring the itch on I just feel like constantly scratching. I ve eliminated detergents and clothing through accurate observation. My father has been diagnosed with stage3 lymphatic cancer. One of his long term symptoms was unexplained skin itching and irritation. Any comments?

Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a contact dermatitis. I suggest using an antihistamine such as Loratadine 10 mg daily. I also suggest using a steroid cream for local application such as Calamine lotion.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
