How To Treat Dark Discoloration And Swelling On Left Knee Caused Due To Injury?

Hi there. I fell earlier this morning while working out and now have developed a honeycomb bruise on my left knee. It is quite distinctive in pattern and the area next to it is tender, slightly swollen and is bruising quite quickly. I understand the blue/black brusing but never experienced honeycomb brusing before. Should I be concerned?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have dark discoloration and swelling on left knee caused due to injury . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like dislocated knee , contusion , hematoma , bursitis or cellulitis . It seems to me that the symptoms are due to hematoma . I would suggest you to apply ice pack for 48 hours and the apply warm compresses , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and take proper rest , If condition doesn't get well then consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , x-ray or do physical examination . Doctor may drain the hematoma , immobilize knee in case of fracture , prescribe muscle relaxant a, anti inflammatory and may recommend surgery in severe case .
