How To Treat Cough And Eye Crusting After Inhaling Gasoline Fumes?

I have this gasoline/fumes smell when I breathe (normal breathing). I have had a cough, some eye crust in the mornings and this has been going on for at least a week. It s almost like you feel as if your being poisoned with gas. It s a horrible feeling and no one understands when you describe it. What can be done to rid myself of this smell? Is it a sinus infection?

Hello,

You are suffering from gasoline fumes smell when you breathe. You also are having cough and some eye crust in the morning after inhaling gasoline fumes. You are suggested to rinse the body thoroughly with running water and soap for at least 15 minutes. Remove all clothing that has come into contact with gasoline and take a shower.

Rinse your eyes with running water for at least 15–20 minutes while blinking frequently. If you still feel irritations call Poison Control after rinsing the eye thoroughly. Get clinically examined by an Eye specialist at the earliest. Get treated. Move to a well-ventilated area will be helpful. If a person washes it off quickly, gasoline usually does not cause significant skin complications.

However, severe gasoline exposure of any kind can be fatal. It can cause eye damage or loss of vision, scarring, intestinal damage, lung damage, etc. It can also cause esophagus, mouth, and throat damage. To prevent exposure to gasoline vapors avoid places where you may encounter gasoline fumes.

Avoid standing close to the exhaust pipes. Wash the skin thoroughly as soon as any gasoline comes into contact with it. However, get clinically evaluated, get treated to stay on the safer side. If sinusitis is suspected and if required you will be asked to get an X-ray PNS done to detect any nasal septal deviation. You will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
