How To Treat A Prolonged Cough And Yellowish Phlegm Thus Formed In An Infant?

Hi, My 75 days old daughter has been coughing for last 1 month. She coughs 10-12 times in a day. Each cough lasts for 1-2 minutes. She feels suffocated, breathless and her face turns reddish/blueish while coughing. She vomits once or twice a day and throws out white bulgum. During first 10 days of cough, she used to throw out yellowish bulgum. Her milk intake has reduced. She has lost weight. Passes motion (once a day or so) and urine (twice or thrice a day) less frequently. Before cough began, she used to take milk almost every hour and pass urine at similar or higher frequency. The pediatrician prescribed Dilo and Visyneral Zinc drops. We served these drops for more than a week. Did not help at all. In fact, cough increased. We then tried homoeopathy for about 10 days. Did not work. We again went to another Pediatrician who has prescribed Domstal and Distaclor drops. We are administering these medicines for last 3 days. Situation has worsened since then. The frequency of cough has increased. She started getting fever (101.2) since yesterday morning. Got fever 4 times since then. Please advise. Its difficult for us to see our child suffering for so long in spite of administering medicines. Grateful in advance.

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Cough in your case needs to be evaluated.Since her urine output has decreased to 2-3/day,it indicates dehydration. So she should be hospitalised for further work up and treatment. Commonest cause is pertussis. She will require Normal saline nebulization and other medications.
